Dr. Heather Low, DACVO

Dr. Low grew up on a small cattle ranch in Oregon where her passion for animals and the outdoors flourished. She left Oregon to attend college at the University of Colorado where she majored in molecular biology. She also trained as an EMT (emergency medical technician) and joined the volunteer fire department for 6 years. 

Dr. Low earned her second degree in equine sciences, followed by her doctor of veterinary medicine at Colorado State University. After graduating from veterinary school, she did a 1 year surgical internship in Arizona, followed by a 1 year surgical fellowship at Oregon State University. Dr. Low then returned to Colorado to complete 3 years of specialty training in ophthalmology. During her specialty training, she performed research in the fields of glaucoma and feline herpesvirus, receiving the Merck veterinary award for outstanding research. She has had several articles published in scientific veterinary journals. She also earned her Masters of Science degree and became certified in veterinary acupuncture.

Dr. Low resides in Bend, Oregon with her 2 horses, donkey, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and turtle. She is the first full time ophthalmologist in Bend, providing both small and large animal ophthalmology services. Dr. Low has a special interest in ophthalmic surgery and acupuncture. She enjoys horseback riding, mountain biking, camping, and kayaking.
